Brass Instrument Tuition

Ever fancied playing a brass instrument yourself? It's never to late to start!

I offer one-to-one lessons to children and adults from complete beginner to advanced level.

Whether you want to progress through the grades or just learn for enjoyment, I can help you build a solid technical foundation on your instrument, while having lots of fun at the same time.

I live in West London and usually travel to your home to teach. I am happy to travel anywhere within a reasonable distance to get to you.

My standard rates (inclusive of travel) are:

  • One hour lesson: £50

  • 45 minute lesson: £40

  • 30 minute lesson: £30

Music Theory Tuition

In order to take ABRSM's Grade 6, 7 or 8 exams on your instrument, you must first have taken and passed ABRSM's Grade 5 Theory of Music exam.

ABRSM's Theory of Music exams challenge you to study "the building blocks of music, starting with the basics of rhythm and notes, and going on to cover harmony and counterpoint, composition, and a broad knowledge of western music, including composers and their works, structure, style and peroid".

Whatever your current knowledge of music theory, I offer one-to-one lessons to children and adults, either to enable you to get that Grade 5 theory certificate so that you can get on with more music making, or to study the wonderful world of music theory from the first lesson right up until the Grade 8 exam.

For those aiming to take the Grade 5 theory exam, I provide all workbooks, so you only need to pay for lessons and the exam (click here for exam prices).

Testimonials

Matthew is a delightful tutor - enthusiastic and knowledgeable -who seems to be a natural teacher. Matthew patiently and thoughtfully tailors my lessons so that they match my needs and interests. He somehow achieves a balance of humour and firm discipline and has helped me – a novice brass player – to achieve exam success.
Even more important for me, Matthew’s own infectious love of his craft has encouraged and nurtured in me a sense of fun and enjoyment in playing my instrument.
